Sarah K Chen Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

I'm a simple person who loves photographing people and spending time with my husband and two little girls, Ellie (4) and Emmeline (1). My girls are my world and every day I wonder how I became so blessed to be their Mama.

When I'm not behind the camera I love to knit and sew cute things for my girls and bake cookies. My husband likes to say I'm a granny at heart, but I like to say I'm a woman of many talents. ;)

I also enjoy snowboarding, traveling and immersing myself in books. One day I will conquer Cornice and get down without snowplowing my way. I dream of traveling to Greece, Italy and Paris one day, but I have yet to convince the husband that traveling abroad with two little ones would be aweome. I'd also love to go camping and show my girls the joys of a perfectly toasted marshmallow and walking barefoot through an icy cold creek bed. And although I said it would never happen, I now read most of my books on my iPhone or iPad instead of a book. Have kids and you'll soon realize the gift of a built in light and always having your book with you.

I'm based in Orange County, California and ocassionally travel for shoots.

Baby Alyssa : Children’s Portrait

Baby Alyssa is too cute for her own good. Her Mommy and Daddy are friends with Cynthia and Ron and they contacted me after the wedding to see if I could take some portraits of their sweet baby girl. We met up at a local park and had a great time shooting, talking about Mother and Fatherhood, and wrangling one very mobile little baby into photo submission. 🙂

Psst, come closer, I want to tell you a secret! The secret ended up being that Alyssa wanted my 5dmkII. Her cuteness is like a superpower and I came this close to giving in to her and handing her my camera. It amazes me how well little babies can communicate to us without using any words.

Angie and I brainstormed some ideas and thus we have balloons and tutus! I especially loved the red heart rain boots with tutu.

There is nothing in the world that’s cuter than a baby who’s just learned to walk. They walk with their hands and arms up in the air and literally wobble and walk with their entire bodies. I could have watched her walk all day long.

Now this next picture is adorable, but not as adorable as the one after that with her little tongue sticking out. I would have thought that the lollipop would be shoved whole into her mouth, but oh no, Alyssa is much too lady like for that. So it was lickitty lick lick the entire time.

I am a little obsessed with baby feet. Their pudginess just gets me every time.

Alyssa had a little too much fun banging one lolli against the other and there was a little mishap. And the funny thing is, when it broke, she looked up at her Mom with the guiltiest look on her face that made us all laugh out loud.

Then the lovies came out to play! Look how happy Alyssa is with her plush duckie! Ok, actually, here’s the real story. The only time Alyssa smiled during this session was when her Mom told her No. As in, no, don’t put the stick end of the lolli into your mouth. And Alyssa laughed at her! Angie and Brent, I say this with love, but man, you two are in trouble!

And because sharing is caring. One lick for me. One lick for you. Alyssa, you are such a good girl!
