Sarah K Chen Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

I'm a simple person who loves photographing people and spending time with my husband and two little girls, Ellie (4) and Emmeline (1). My girls are my world and every day I wonder how I became so blessed to be their Mama.

When I'm not behind the camera I love to knit and sew cute things for my girls and bake cookies. My husband likes to say I'm a granny at heart, but I like to say I'm a woman of many talents. ;)

I also enjoy snowboarding, traveling and immersing myself in books. One day I will conquer Cornice and get down without snowplowing my way. I dream of traveling to Greece, Italy and Paris one day, but I have yet to convince the husband that traveling abroad with two little ones would be aweome. I'd also love to go camping and show my girls the joys of a perfectly toasted marshmallow and walking barefoot through an icy cold creek bed. And although I said it would never happen, I now read most of my books on my iPhone or iPad instead of a book. Have kids and you'll soon realize the gift of a built in light and always having your book with you.

I'm based in Orange County, California and ocassionally travel for shoots.

Sarah & Steve’s Wedding

Sarah and Steve married on a beautiful summer day amongst their closest family and friends. I loved how laid back and happy these two were and how much fun their friends in the wedding party were. Someone was always laughing or cracking jokes. It was definitely a fun day for all! Sarah looked so gorgeous on her wedding day. It was a dream photographing her! She and her bridesmaids all got ready in the church and as most people know, churches don’t always make the best backdrops for getting ready photos. But we did some rearranging of some furniture and shot against this salmon colored wall by the window and voila! Some of my most favorite getting ready images ever!

I loved the heels on Sarah’s Ferragamo heels. These are definitely a pair that she’ll be rocking after the wedding!

Then it was time for the first look. I love their genuine expressions of surprise and joy!

They chose to take all their portraits off site in this beautiful park. Loved the rows of trees, the light filtering through the leaves and how we basically had the place to ourselves. I shot a mix of both film and digital at their wedding.

Sarah and Steve make such a beautiful couple! Not only are they both ridiculously good looking, they’re so sweet with each other. It’s like two like hearted people met when they found each other.

The girls all looked gorgeous in their deep purple one shoulder gowns.

The  guys looked pretty handsome too!

Love this candid shot Connie got of the wedding party while I was doing portraits.

Sarah and Steve had a traditional church wedding ceremony. Their Mothers partook in the candle lighting ceremony together, they had a talented friend sing a song, and Sarah’s little sister played the violin. I loved how personal and special these moments were. Here’s Steve and his groomsmen entering the church.

Love this one that Connie captured!

After the ceremony Sarah removed her veil and donned this beautiful hair flower. It really transformed her look and added a nice touch for the reception to follow!

The grand entrance is always a fun moment to capture. Everyone’s super happy and excited to be celebrating the marriage of their loved one!

Towards the tail end of the day I dragged the girls out for some portraits in the golden light. We didn’t have anywhere else to really go besides the parking lot, but beautiful light trumps location every time. I love these so much!

An of course I have to thank my dear friends Connie M Chung and Jen Lauren Grant for shooting with me that day! It’s always a fun time with you girls!
